World Cup 2022: FIFA confirms change to start date

The cumulative viewership of all matches of the 2006 World Cup was estimated to be 26.29 billion with an estimated 715.1 million people watching the final match, a ninth of the entire population of the planet. The FIFA Confederations Cup was a tournament held one year before the World Cup at the World Cup host nation as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming World Cup. It is contested by the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championships, along with the FIFA World Cup champion and the host country. The first edition took place in 1992 and the last edition was played in 2017. In March 2019, FIFA confirmed that the tournament would no longer be active owing to an expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021. The event will take place from Mon, Nov 21, 2022 to Sun, Dec 18, 2022.

Therefore, this match is regarded by FIFA as the de facto final of the 1950 World Cup. The FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition established in 1930. It is contested by the men's national teams of the members of the FIFA, the sport's global governing body. The tournament has taken place organised every four years, except in 1942 and 1946, when the competition was cancelled due to World War II. The 2018 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Russia, was won by France, who beat Croatia 4–2 in regulation time. The 2026 FIFA World Cup was chosen to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, marking the first time a World Cup has been shared by three host nations. The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held, with 48 teams playing 80 matches.

The Guardian has estimated that up to 4,000 workers may die due to lax safety and other causes by the time the competition is held. Between 2015 and 2021, the Qatari government adopted new labour reforms to improve working conditions, including a minimum wage for all workers and the removal of the kafala system. According to Amnesty International, however, living and working conditions of the foreign workers have not improved in the last years. What makes the result even more remarkable is Spain had actually lost their first game in the tournament, a 1-0 loss to Switzerland. In fact even more remarkably, is that throughout the knockout stages of the tournament, they won every game by one goal to nil. Brazil emerged back on top in 1970 with magnificent displays against pretty much every team they faced. The closest team to beating them was England who only lost 1-0 during the group stage. But in every other game, the Brazilians, once again led by Pele, scored three or four goals. Held in England for the first time, the 1966 tournament did not start well.

Because all of the venues are in the city, there aren’t many tourist attractions at the event. The United States, England, and Qatar have each sought about 2 million tickets for the competition, from November 21 to December 18. On Nov. 26, Argentina will face Mexico in the 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium, while England will face the United States the following day. With the opening of Al Bayt Stadium on Tuesday, the FIFA Arab Cup officially begun.

In late May, the US Department of Justice announced a 47-count indictment with charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy against 14 people. Arrests of over a dozen FIFA officials were made since that time, particularly on 29 May and 3 December. By the end of May 2015, a total of nine FIFA officials and five executives of sports and broadcasting markets had already been charged on corruption. At the time, FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced he would relinquish his position in February 2016.
